Space Escape!
Join Reggie as he finds his space station under attack from aliens and must escape to his ship!
Additions to the game are as follows
-A script creating rotation of objects as seen in level 3 used from the solar planet project provided by MSU
-2 unique levels including a space themed level where if you fall you will die
-An electric damaging floor in level 2
Level 1
- Level 1 introduces the character to their controls in a calm environment to allow the player to become familiar with the game. No enemies or hazardous environment are placed in level 1. The level is challenging though in the sense that the player must make multiple jumps on platforms in an upward fashion to reach the end goal. Originally the keycard was placed on the side of the room but was later moved because I would often tend to begin my traversal upward on the platforms without thinking to explore the side walls on ground level so I moved the key card for easy sight and access by placing it near the first platform the player must jump on.
Level 2
-Level 2 begins by the player walking through hallways, score pickups are placed to guide players to the correct hallway. when reaching a dead end room the player will see a pad that they can walk onto which is visually different than anything in the room. This pad propels the player in the air leading them to the ventilation shaft system of the level. In the ventilation shaft the player must jump on multiple platforms to reach the next room. the floor below the platforms is meshed with an electric flooring to indicate to the player they should not fall or mis-jump because they will die. A checkpoint system is placed by this area so if players do fall and die they can easily restart at that section of the level. Once into the next room the player will be immediately confronted by enemies creating a flight or fight scenario. In either situation the player will be drawn to the center of the room where there is a large platform providing both cover a a strategic advantage over the enemies in the room because of high ground advantage. This platform then leads directly to the end level goal/crystal.
Level 3
-Level 3 is set up outside the ship so a black level theme is used to resemble being in outer space. The platforms to be traversed on lead straight to your end goal and the end goal is a large space docking station easily located at the beginning of the level thus drawing the player to its location because of its size and presence. The challenge lies within making tight jumps onto the rotating platforms giving high hazard to falling and dying.
Challenges
-Rotating platforms are fairly easy to stay on in your player is in the middle of the platform.
-The player particle system caused some player input and movement response challenges but was quickly resolved.
-The level 3 theme was intended to have a black and starry skybox but when used it created a blurry and distorted image for the level so I used a black box for the level and reduced the lighting to create a blackened scene to represent a cartoonish space area.
